My observation about Facebook
It is totally undeniable concerning the fame of facebook. This web service provider has more than 300 million users around the world, and most of them subscribed in only this 2 or 3 years. Facing the constant progress of high technology and software, how can Facebook compete with so many competitors? Either it invents brand new software or it combines the existing functions provided by other platforms, and so did Facebook. Facebook is the multi-function platform combining MSN (instant chatting software), blog, pictures storeroom, mail box and games. Users can save much more time and enjoy surfing on internet just by logging on Facebook. Your friends share their photos, clips, YouTube’s videos and also songs; so that people are easily stuck on Facebook once they click it.
Besides the convenience this network has brought, another function that causes it popularity is the service of friend binder. For example you don’t have to surf blogs to blogs to keep yourself posted with your friends’ current situations. You can just click on the homepage, once logged in, and you can skim over all your friends’ recent pictures or comments. In addition, Facebook not only reconnects me and lots of my long lost friends but also allows me to make new friends. It enables people to make friends by their own friends. And when people are asking for a request, you can first check if there’s a common friend between this person and you, in case you want to avoid unwanted stranger.
Along with the convenience, there are always critiques around, and most of all is about privacy. Once you put information on Facebook, you have to be prepared that everybody can take a look at it. There is even a saying that government could have access on this and make it a way to spy or monitor people. So in order not to cause yourself too many troubles, we have to make the best use of this technology rather than be under its control. For this part, before I put my pictures on Facebook, I will always set its limits on authority, for example only my friends could have a look at them. This summer vacation, when my friends and I took part in the deaflympics games, my friends took several pictures with a cute baby at Sheraton’s lobby. And it happened that the mother of this child was not happy about the photos, so we deleted them. It’s not polite from us to take pictures without asking, but here the scary thing: these are the pictures we share between us, and we didn’t add this mother among our friends. How could she know about it? Facebook is all about fast and broad connection, you will never know how far the links could go. Therefore, I started to limits the access of my pictures, and most of all not to put too much of my information on it.
Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Facebook could save us time but could also expose you under unwanted and dangerous situation. While it has facilitated our life and our entertainment, we must keep being a smart user.
