When it comes to Facebook, a question came to my mind: “Why is Facebook so popular among all-aged users?” I didn’t apply an account for Facebook, though my many friends told me to do so. I was just too busy to apply for it. All of my family members log on Facebook every day. They take care of their crops on the Happy Farm. They feed their fish in the Fish Bowl. The more games Facebook provides, the more time people spend on playing it. Children in my cram school play Facebook, too. They even talk their parents into logging on Facebook and feeding their fish during their work hours. There is one reason why Facebook is so popular around the world, especially in Taiwan. It is because of the people.
Taiwanese people like to share new things with their friends. In Taiwan, anything new will attract a lot of people because people will spread new information through the word-of-mouth. Like egg tart, 50-dollar pizza and Mister Donut, many businessmen followed the trend, imitated and ran similar stores. However, when the great mass fervor faded, those stores were shut down pretty soon. There were so many cases like these happened in Taiwan. Among these cases, there is only one survivor, that is, Mister Donut. Although there are no longer long waiting lines in front of the stores, some customers will buy doughnuts in Mister Donut regularly. That’s why they can still run their business.
In Facebook’s case, Facebook has too many competitors like Plurk, Wretch and Pixnet. They are actually all blog servers, but Facebook is different from them. Facebook works more like a big chat room. People can communicate with their friends immediately. Facebook provides variety of games in order to make direct interaction between the users. These are its advantages.
However, like those cases I mentioned before, little of them survived. As a totally observer, I believe that this trend will finally come to an end in the near future. Unless Facebook always updates with new things and new information for the users, or it will be less and less people want to use it.
