My Observation on Facebook by Eva 95540460

It is an undeniable fact that accompany with the fast, convenient internet, everyone can get all kinds of information they want within few seconds simply by typing key words and clicking the mouse. Therefore, variety of websites and internet services proliferate in a considerable quantity in recent years. Among all the platforms existing, Facebook is one of the most common and popular means of interacting resources. It is a multi-functional internet platform which combines games, blog, photo uploading and storage, interesting psychological tests, reminder service, messenger service, and all other kinds of resources for connecting people together. But, why it seems to be the most promising tool that everyone must have? And what are the problems it can bring? Hence, in the following paragraphs I’d like to discuss about Facebook’s advantages and disadvantages.

Speaking of Facebook’s advantages, the first thing pop out must be its powerful, strong friends searching engine and network services. By using Facebook, you can easily build up your own interpersonal relationship network. When you first register on the Facebook, the system will check the name list of your registration e-mail, and find out all the possible friends using this application as well. And besides adding your own friends, you can also add other friends from your friends’ friend list so that your interpersonal network will grow bigger and broader. Also, you can find your old, disconnecting friends on this awesome searching engine just by typing the friend’s name or any other related data. Like myself, I use this application to find my elementary and junior high school classmates who I haven’t seen since the graduation, and one of my disconnecting classmates post a shocking news that she is going to get marry on the December this year just few days after I found her account on the Facebook.

Besides the excellent friends searching service, another great service it offers is the photo tagging service. When uploading photos, you can not only write the description but also tag your friends’ names that appear in that photo. By doing so, not only all your friends can see the photo with the names of the people in the picture, but your friends who appear in the picture will also receive a message saying” there is a photo of you being post on XXX’s post”, so your friend can click the link and see that specific picture with his/ her image on. This function can let people find their photo easier and let them browse other pictures faster as well. What’s more, it can provide topics for you and your friends to talk about. Since it contains so many functions such as various games playing, video sharing, picture browsing, and latest personal status updating, people can easily follow your life and feelings. For example, you can talk about how many vegetable you stole from others today or what result you got from the psychological tests and etc.. Therefore, it is really a good way to catch up with all your friends by just browsing through the Facebook news feed, and you will feel like you are so close to all of them even if you are actually far apart.

However, just like there are two sides of a coin, behind something wonderful, there must be some flaws come with. To Facebook, the biggest problem it has is the issue of privacy. Since Facebook provides such a wonderful and powerful platform for people to make friends, it is really hard to set the limit. You can never be sure that your personal files won’t be disclosed. Despite that fact that Facebook does offer the lucking function that you can choose the people you want to share the photos or data with, it is still not a one hundred percent guarantee. Take myself as an example, I always luck my photos and only share them with whom I have filtrated; however, someone without my permission still see the photos. It is because my friend posts the photo on the wall or makes a comment on that photo, so it appears in her wall, and then that person can see the picture from my friend’s wall. Another problem rise my concern is the problem of addiction. So many people spend more time playing games or tests provided by Facebook or surfing around in Facebook than their daily routine. And it seems like these problems will never end, rather, it will become more serious if people do not pay attention on this issue.

All in all, although it has some flaws, I still have to admit that I like to use this application a lot, and I really do believe this platform is a very nice and convenient one to reach out to the world and build up your friend network. However, we must keep in mind that this tool is developed to help us not to put us in danger or addict to it.
